Okay, so I nearly killed TurboTax tonight. My tax situation this year is a little bit awkward.
1. I started Consulting. This means I get to pay self-employment taxes. Joy.
2. I started a new job, and moved to Kentucky from Virginia.
3. I moved from Kentucky to Ohio, because the commute was killing me.
So, I have to file a Federal return, along with 3 separate State returns. Great. Enter TurboTax to make this easy for me. Everything was going great, until it was time to do the Ohio return. TurboTax decided that the income that I earned while living in Kentucky was taxable in Ohio, but not the income that I earned while living and working in Ohio.
This is the point where I’m reminded of the “Ask the box for help” commercial. Unfortunately, I can’t find the damn commercial on youtube or google videos.
So, to fix this issue, I have to go and manually edit the forms, and put in the numbers myself. Okay, I can do that. I then go through the rest of the program, everything checks out, I go to print out all of the forms (because I am not paying $90 to e-file 4 returns!) and TurboTax tells me “Egads! There’s another form that you have to fill out for Ohio, but it’s not available until Monday, and you can’t e-file it!”.
Seriously? WTF Ohio? Get your shit together. If you want me to file my taxes in a timely manner, how about you release your tax forms when I want to fill them out.
I think I’m moving to a country of no taxes, I believe it’s called “Imagination Land”. Where you fart from where you talk and you talk from where you fart.
